As reported by several media outlets, including CNN, United Airlines flight 328 taking off from Denver and bound for Honolulu returned to the airport after suffering a right engine failure. The Broomfield, Colorado police department had several reports of debris from the plane falling in the Commons Park, Northmoor, and Red Leaf neighborhoods.

According to air traffic control communications with Flight 328 obtained by CNN, pilots issued a mayday call, telling air traffic controllers "we've experienced engine failure." The plane had 241 people on board, including the passengers and crew. The Boeing 777-200 returned safely to the airport, and no one onboard was hurt. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident. Broomfield residents were asked not to touch or move the debris as they are part of the ongoing investigation.

Travis Loock, who was onboard United Flight 328, told CNN “there was a big boom and the kind of sound you don't want to hear when you're on the airplane," Loock, who was flying with his wife, said via phone. "And I instantly put my shade up, and I was pretty frightened to see that the, the engine on my side was missing. We were just glad we weren't over the ocean, because that's where we were heading," he added.
